Junior Suite Superior Penthouse: Overview

The Junior Suite Superior Penthouse is the highest class of room offered at Bahia Principe Sian Ka’an. These rooms are located on the third floors and feature a large rooftop terrace with jacuzzi.

The Superior Penthouse room has almost the same exact layout as the standard Junior Suite rooms, which you can find on the first and second floors. However, the Junior Suite has a balcony or patio and the Junior Suite Superior Penthouse does not have one on the main level. And of course the Superior Penthouse room has the addition of the rooftop level.

Room Stats

  • 1 bed / 1 bath / Sleeps 3
  • Features: Two stories, rooftop jacuzzi
  • Technology: Plasma screen satellite TV, complimentary WiFi
  • Amenities: Hair dryer, safe, iron and ironing board, mini bar, bathrobe and slippers, pillow menu, turn down service

Junior Suite Superior Penthouse: Living & Dining Room

The Junior Suite Superior penthouse consists of the main suite level as well as the rooftop terrace. The suite is open concept, extremely spacious, and features tall ceilings as well as large windows across the entirety of the exterior wall.

In the living room you will find a pull-out sofa, coffee table, and a side chair. The couch is a sleeper bed and fulls out to a full size bed, though note the room’s occupancy maximum is three. I do feel this suite is more designed for a couple than a friend group, however.

There is a dining area with a large dining room table that seats two. This was perfect for when we had room service delivered.

Behind the dining room is the open staircase that leads to the rooftop terrace.

While there is not a balcony on this level, the oversized windows do slide open. This allows a fantastic breeze to come through the room and it was surprisingly one of my favorite parts of the room.

There is a wet bar and mini bar located under the stairs by the dining room table. Here you’ll find a coffee maker, bar sink, and mini-fridge.

The mini-fridge includes beer, shots, soda, water, chips, and it refreshed daily. The minibar contains everything you need for your coffee as well.

Junior Suite Superior Penthouse: Bedroom

The bedroom area has a king bed, two nightstands, a small TV, and a double closet with built-in shelves and a safe. Beach towels are stored in the closet.

The bed was very comfortable. The TV was definitely on the small side, but to be fair we don’t spend much time watchinf TV on vacation. Note it can also swivel around to the living room area.

While the suite is technically open concept, you do have the option of sliding over a partition to close off the bedroom somewhat.

As you may have noticed the style of the decor and furnishings is definitely outdated. I will also note there is quite a bit of wear and tear you can’t see in the photos. However, this was to be expected given the excellent price we paid.

Junior Suite Superior Penthouse: Restroom

The restroom is fully enclosed behind a door an not open to the room. It is also jack and jill style with two doors – an entrance from the bedroom side and an entrance by the mini bar.

While it may seem unnecessary to have a double entrance restroom, it makes sense if you have the bedroom partition closed.

The restroom features a walk-in shower, large mirror, hair dryer, and magnifying mirror. The provided toiletries include shampoo, conditioner, lotion, and soap.

Junior Suite Superior Penthouse: Rooftop

And of course the entire reason for renting this room – the rooftop! The rooftop terrace is home to a jacuzzi tub, a table with two jars, and two lounge chairs.

Overall the rooftop is fairly private – but not completely. To one side was a set of wooden slats dividing our jacuzzi from the neighbor’s. This is fairly private unless you stick your head around!

To your other side you will be able to see your neighbor at another building as the dividers are glass.

Junior Suite Superior Penthouse: View & Location

The Junior Suite Superior Penthouse rooms are located at both the front and the back of the property. You’ll find them in Buildings #1-5 near the lobby and Buildings #16-#20 at the far back on the property.

Our room was in Building #4. It was very convenient to access the buffet in the lobby as well as the golf cart pick up point to visit the other properties. The downside is that the live music from the nightly entertainment was very loud until about 11PM.

If you book direct with Bahia Principe and sign up for the free Principe Loyalty Program, you will be able to select your room in advance of your trip!

Regardless of which room style or building you select, you will primarily have a jungle view due to the way the buildings are laid out. None of them really directly face the pool and of resort is not located on a beach for ocean views. Instead the resort feels like a jungle hotel and you will have a lot of greenery in your view.

Junior Suite Superior Penthouse: Overall Thoughts

Overall Bahia Principe Sian Ka’an is an extremely affordable resort. As it was built in 2011, the resort is definitely seeing some wear and tear in terms on paint, maintenance, rust, etc. Plus, the furniture and decor is definitely dated.

However, since the rate was so affordable, that meant we could get their largest and best room. The Junior Suite Superior Penthouse is incredibly spacious, and we loved the rooftop for tanning privately and enjoying the jacuzzi.

Personally, I probably would have named it a “Rooftop Suite” instead of a “Penthouse”, as the latter evokes images of high-end luxury, which is not this resort.

What is the Cost of the Junior Suite Superior Penthouse?

Now, the moment you have been waiting for – what did the Junior Suite Superior Penthouse two story room cost at Bahia Principe Sian Ka’an?

We booked direct for four nights in early April, which is considered high season. The nightly rate was $151 per person per night or $302/night total. The grand total of $1210 for two people for four nights and five days. This rate is completely inclusive, meaning not only does it cover the room, but it also includes all meals, snacks, alcoholic drinks, and nonalcoholic drinks, as well as room service.

In our experience, we feel $300/night for an all-inclusive is an excellent deal and sometimes can be hard to find depending on the season. And, this was for the most expensive room. If you opt for an entry level Junior Suite, you can find rates areound $240/night for two.
